Skiing On Monday

On Monday the 15th of August 2016 me and Room 1 went skiing at Porters Pass ski field.

We had to be at school by 6:45 am. The worst thing was that I woke up at 4:45. After my parents I had breakfast and then got ready and packed. Then Summer picked me up then we went to school. After everyone left it took Gage a while to get to school and then finally he came.

After we got on the road again we set off for two hours in the car. With lots of views to see and lots of things to look at. Most of the chatting and looking out the window took away a lot of time and we all knew we were close then finally we saw the porters sign.

Down the dirty road up and down we go and we knew were close because we could see the ski field, the T bars and the chair lift then the scariest part there was a very high and long zig zag road up to the car park and up we go.

When we were up the road we parked and lined up and ski / boot hire. After a while of waiting we went in. I was the first person. Then I walked up to the boot person and asked them for a size 5 boot. Good enough it fitted perfectly. Then since the boot fitted I walked up to the ski person and gave him the other boot and he took it and got some cool skis. Then he asked for my weight and he did them up and I was the first out.

After that I went over to the beginners slope and there was Ms Kemp. Then Mitchell's dad have us a little push and I was skiing for the first time then I went on the magic carpet which I fell off but I was fine. After we had ski lessons and we were showed some tips and tricks. Once that was done I had trouble turning so I asked for help then I knew how to turn and I got the intermediate password. Once I was there I was nervous so I went up and down with Guy’s dad from half way. Then I built some confidence up and went higher and higher each time. At one part I faced my fear and up to the very top. There was a little drop at the top of the intermediate and I fell off all three times I went down It on the third and final time is was the saddest part. I had to go back to the boot and ski hire and go back to my car.

Yet another two hours back down the zig zag road. On the way back I was half asleep. I knew the way back so it went faster. The other best thing was that I got dropped off at my house at the end.

Callaghan’s Ridge Walk

Last week we walked Callaghan’s Ridge for the William Pike Challenge. We all had to be here prepared before 8:40 am. Then at 8:50 we left in the cars to go to Callaghan’s Ridge. We got there at around about 9:10. At 9:30 we started walking the track. That was when the four hours started.

When we started the track my mum wanted to know if it was good for biking. So I took some photos to prove that it wasn’t good for biking but it is good for walking. During the track I took some photos and two or three videos. Some of the photos that I took are going to go on the class blog. The photos I took were birds, rocks, hills creeks and rivers.

We walked for a bit longer then we came across something. On the side of the track there were MASSIVE mushrooms on a tree. I didn’t notice them and they scared me. There was a step that you had to go down and when I saw the massive mushrooms I jumped off and I took a photo. Then we headed off again.

Before the mushrooms we stopped and had a snack then a while after the big mushrooms we had lunch. First we had to make our shelters. When my group made ours we all learnt how to do a trucker’s knot. Then Ms Kemp came around and checked our shelter. She said it was good so we could get our bags and eat lunch.

After all the eating we did a number check; the first person called and it carried on 1 2 3 4 5… 34. After we knew we had everyone we set off again. At one point we had to climb really high for so long and my ankles hurt so much.

At the end there were two ways and I didn't know what way to go.  Aleece came and looked up the left side and there was a building, then Allie and everyone else came. Allie said to go straight but they both led back because when we were back from the walk there was a building to the left and it was the same building that Aleece had seen. We went back to school after the walk and went home one minute early.
